COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Thank you for your interest in the ASUH Community Engagement Scholarship. This opportunity was created to assist accepted full-time, classified undergraduate students of UH Mānoa financially to offset the cost of tuition. (Awards may be subject to state and federal applicable taxes. This may also affect your financial aid status and cost of attendance.) Funds can be awarded up to $1,000 per individual. 

Note: Past and present ASUH Senators, Executive Officers, Student Court Members and ASUH student employees are not eligible to receive these awards. Students who have received this award are not eligible to apply again within the same academic school year.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Student seeking to apply for the Community Engagement Scholarship Award must:

  • Must be a full-time, undergraduate, classified student at UH Mānoa

  • Must complete all required fields of the online application

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Student applying for the Community Engagement Scholarship Award:

  • Must upload a .docx of the essay that should be no more than 750 words, double-spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font. Must follow Essay Guidelines.

  • Must submit a copy of their most recently completed semester’s official or unofficial transcript to the ASUH Office…

  • We are now accepting unofficial and official transcripts.

  • All transcripts should be emailed to asuh@hawaii.edu or mailed to:

  • Must fully complete and submit a current version of the WH-1 form handwritten and signed, scanned and submitted through the online application

  • Must fully complete and submit a current version of the Volunteer form handwritten and signed, scanned and submitted through the online application

  • Must have upload a Letter of Recommendation from a non-family member with contact information

  • Is recommended to participate in an ASUH sponsored event within the following semester

  • Please double check your UH Student ID when applying

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Letter of Recommendation can be overlooked upon request only due to extenuating circumstances. Please email asuhuaa@hawaii.edu two weeks prior to application deadline.

  • The UAA committee has discretion to fund all or part of any applications.

  • An applicant's GPA/transcript is a dependable indicator

Deadlines

APPLICATION PROCESSING

As of Spring 2014, all applications are electronic and all materials must be submitted by the deadline. Applications are processed by ASUH and reviewed by the Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) Committee within two - four weeks of the submission deadline. Essays and Letter of Recommendations are to be reviewed by Faculty members. Students will be notified of the decision via email after the UAA Committee has made a set decision.

 

*Students who have received this award are not able to apply again within the same academic school year*

  3. WH-1 -tax form to be handwritten and submitted in PDF format via the online application, US citizens must fill out Sections A and E.

ESSAY PROMPT

  • If you could start your own charity, what would your mission be? Who would you serve? What kinds of acts of service would volunteers perform?

  • Answer the required essay prompt for your corresponding category in 750 words or less, double-spaced, 12 point font in Times New Roman.

  • The essay is scored based on the rubric below.

SCHOLARSHIP & ESSAY SCORING RUBRIC

  • The Study Abroad Scholarship Essay is scored based on this rubric. All scores will be divided by 4 to create a score on a 4.0 scale

  • NOTE: Your total score will be based out of a total of 100 points. This score is calculated based on your GPA and/or EFC, Essay Score and Letter of Recommendation. All Components must be included for consideration.
